Fox Hollow

Well, I got my assignment for senior practicum. This is not student teaching, but a class that I am taking right now. It is like a pre-student teaching. I am in the classroom all day on Mondays and Wednesdays. I was assigned to Fox Hollow elementary school and will be with the kindergartners. Today was my first day and I did enjoy it but there are some definite things I did not like about it. I don't get as much experience teaching different subjects because kindergartners are only half days. The state of Idaho has specific expectations and the district has mandated lesson plans. They focus a lot on reading which is great, but they don't do much else. This makes me sad that I won't have the opportunity to do much with these kids. But I am already attached to them. I have always been a sucker for the problem kids. I think because they need have problems I love them that just more. My cooperating teacher though is great and I have already learned from her.

I noticed that with the schools here as well. I did some observations and volunteerin at Madison Elementary and all the kindergartners did were learn sounds of letters and Printing the letters. Very important but the kids need to learn other stuff.
